Youth in institutions read the same types of books as other young people, although they often prefer grittier, real-life stories. At the same time, staff in institutions want to protect the youth in their care from “inappropriate” content. Library staff in institutions tread a fine line between preserving intellectual freedom for youth and censoring titles other staff deem inappropriate.
