General Questions about Library Services for Youth in Custody

Hello,

I am currently teaching English at a juvenile correctional facility in
Wisconsin and I am also working on my Masters of LIS through UW-Milwaukee
because this month I will be transitioning into the role of school librarian
for half of my day.

I am working on a Careers paper for my Foundations of Library and Information
class and would like to pose a few questions to all of you. If you have time, could you
please respond to one or all of the questions below? Thank you!

1. What do you see as the challenges and problems facing librarians that
work with incarcerated youth? What are some ways to overcome these challenges
and problems?

2. Does your facility allow access to online journals or databases?

3. Why do you believe libraries in correctional facilities are necessary?

4. What are your insights into the profession of librarians for
incarcerated youth?

5. What are the prospects for this specialty in the foreseeable future?

6. Please list 5 books or authors that your students just cannot get
enough of.

7. Any other general comments you would like to share?

Sincerely,

Kelly Knudsen
